Description

INFANT indicates whether an infant record is the first or second infant record, or a record of a mother who had a stillbirth, abortion, or miscarriage.

In the original Maternal and Newborn Health data from PMA, infant records were stored on the mother's record and separate variables held information on both babies if the mother gave birth to twins. IPUMS has reformatted the data so that twins are now stored on separate records.
