Codes and Frequencies
Description
CONFPARTNERTALK indicates the woman's level of confidence in her ability to start a conversation with her husband, spouse, or partner about family planning or birth spacing.
For this question, women who were unmarried or did not have a regular partner were asked to imagine how they would respond if they were currently in a union.
The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.
Comparability
For 2018 samples, questionnaires included 5 response categories: "Not at all confident", "Not very confident", "Somewhat confident", "Confident", and "Very confident".
For 2020 and later samples, the questionnaire included 5 response categories measuring to what extent the woman agrees that she feels confident discussing family planning with my husband/partner: "Strongly disagree," "Disagree," "Neither agree nor disagree," "Agree," and "Strongly agree." A "Not at all confident" code was added to the original response categories and 2020 "Strongly disagree" responses were coded as "Strongly disagree / Not at all confident."
