Description

AVOIDSEX reports to what extent the woman is capable of avoiding sex with her partner if she doesn't want sex.

The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.

Comparability

For 2017 samples, questionnaires included 4 response categories: "Not at all capable," "Somewhat capable," "Capable," and "Very capable."

For the 2019 onwards, the questionnaire included 5 response categories measuring to what extent the woman agrees that she is capable of avoiding sex with her partner if she does not want it: "Strongly disagree," "Disagree," "Neither agree nor disagree," "Agree," and "Strongly agree." A "Not very capable" code was added to the original response categories and 2019 "Disagree" responses were coded as "Disagree / Not very capable."
