Description
CASTE reports the caste of the heads of the household, as reported by the respondent of the household questionnaire. Users should note that the respondent for the household questionnaire was not necessarily the household head.
The question associated with this variable was included in the household questionnaire.
Comparability
In most samples, the household respondent reports the caste of the household head, but the records of all members of the household are assigned the caste of the household head.
In some samples, only the record of the household head contains information about the household head's caste. All other household members are not in universe for this variable. See the Universe tab for more details.
