FPEVUSE in IPUMS-PMA is similar to the variable FPEVUSE in IPUMS-DHS. The IPUMS-PMA variable is based on the single, direct question "Have you ever used anything or tried in any way to delay or avoid getting pregnant?" The IPUMS-DHS variable is constructed from a series of questions and reports if the woman has ever used a modern method, folkloric method, traditional method, or has never used a method of family planning.
