Description
GEOUGDET reports the region of Uganda where the respondent was located, with the region classification typically used by the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS). Please see GEOUGGEN for a related variable with only four regions. Due to difference in boundaries, GEOUGDET does not include the 2020 sample. GEOUGSH harmonizes all the samples into one spatially harmonized variable and incudes samples from 2014-2020.
Comparability
Beginning in 2020, the geographic boundaries in the original data allowed for additional detail. GEOUGSH harmonizes all the samples into one spatially harmonized variable.
Comparability with IPUMS-DHS
As noted in the variable description, the classification of regions for Uganda in PMA's GEOUGDET variable matches the regions identified in the DHS, which are included in the IPUMS DHS variable GEO_UG2006_2011.
