Comparability
There are variations in question wording across samples. Most commonly, this question is worded as, "In the last 12 months, have you visited a health facility for care for yourself (or your children)?"
When samples vary from this wording, they vary regarding whether the question is for the female respondent only (versus including her children), and/or whether the time period of reference is six months (versus 12 months).
Samples that diverge from the more common question wording are noted below.
Comparability — Congo (Democratic Republic) [top]
The Round 2 survey for Kinshasa asks whether the woman visited a health facility in the last 6 months.
Comparability — Ghana [top]
The Round 2 and 3 surveys ask whether the woman visited a health facility in the last 6 months.
Comparability — Kenya [top]
The Round 1 survey for Kenya asks whether the woman visited a health facility in the last 6 months for herself.
Comparability — Uganda [top]
The Round 3 survey only asks about seeking care for the respondent and not her children, as it asks "In the last 12 months have you visited a health facility for care for yourself?"
Comparability with IPUMS-DHS
HCVISITY is similar to FPHCVISITY in IPUMS-DHS. The wording of the question corresponding to the IPUMS-DHS variable varies slightly over time, which may affect comparability; see the Survey Text and Universe Tab of the IPUMS-DHS variable for more information.
