HLTHWAITVAL
Waiting time - value if minutes or hours

This is a 3-digit variable that represents how long (in minutes or hours) the woman waited before seeing a health care provider, except for the following codes:

995 = Not interviewed (female questionnaire)
996 = Not interviewed (household questionnaire)
999 = NIU (not in universe)

Description

For women who visited a health facility in the last 6 months, HLTHWAITVAL, together with HLTHWAIT, reports how long the woman waited before seeing a health care provider.

Note that the codes in this variable are not reported in a specific unit of time i.e., minutes or hours. Rather, the unit of time in which the woman responded is reported in HLTHWAIT. Users must use both HLTHWAITVAL and HLTHWAIT to determine the exact amount of time the woman waited before seeing a provider.

Users may also be interested in HLTHWAITMIN, which reports the number of minutes the woman waited before seeing a provider. The information in HLTHWAITMIN is constructed from HLTHWAIT and HLTHWAITVAL.

This question is included as part of the Primary Health Care module, which is included in certain female questionnaires. These questions pertain to the woman's attitudes towards and utilization of health care services.

The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.

Comparability

In the Ghana 2016 Round 5 sample, this variable has a universe of "women aged 15-49 who have visited a health facility for herself or her child in the past 6 months, and who saw a provider", but it is clear from other questions in the survey that some women also responded that they had visited a facility within the last 6 months for people other than herself or her child.
