This is a 2-digit variable that represents the time (in days, weeks, months, or years) since the woman's last menstrual period, except for the following codes:
95 = Not interviewed (female questionnaire)
96 = Not interviewed (household questionnaire)
97 = Don't know
98 = No response or missing
99 = NIU (not in universe)
Description
For women who were either currently using or whose most recent method in the past 2 years was the pill and had ever stopped using the pill for a short amount of time and started back up again, PAUSEPILLVAL, together with PAUSEPILLDUR, reports the length of time the woman stopped using the pill before starting again.
Note that the codes in this variable are not reported in a specific unit of time i.e., days, weeks, months, or years. Rather, the unit of time in which the woman responded is reported in PAUSEPILLDUR. Users must use both PAUSEPILLVAL and PAUSEPILLDUR to determine the exact amount of time the woman stopped using the pill before starting again.
The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.
Universe
- Women aged 15-49 who are currently using or whose most recent family planning method in the past 2 years was pills, and who stopped using the pills for a short period of time and started back up again.
