Codes and Frequencies
For women who were pregnant at the time of the interview, PREFTIMECHPREG, together with PREFTIMECHVAL, reports the amount of time they would like to wait before the birth of another child.
Note that this variable reports only a specific unit of time i.e., months or years, not the actual duration of the interval. The specific number of months or years is reported in PREFTIMECHVAL. Users must use both PREFTIMECHPREG and PREFTIMECHVAL to determine the exact amount of time the woman would like to wait before the birth of another child.
The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.
There are no comparability issues.
Comparability with IPUMS-DHS
PREFTIMECHPREG, together with PREFTIMECHVAL, can be used to create a variable similar to PREFTIMECH in IPUMS-DHS. There may be differences in questionnaire text or the variable's universe; see the Survey Text and Universe Tab of the IPUMS-DHS variable for more information.
