Description
For women who ever had a pregnancy end in miscarriage, abortion, or stillbirth, PREGENDMONTHS reports how many months into the pregnancy the woman was when the pregnancy ended.
The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire and in selected follow-up surveys.
Comparability
The universe differs among samples. See Universe tab for details.
The construction of this variable differs for Nigeria 2019, Cote d'Ivoire 2020, and Burkina Faso 2021. In these samples, the woman could respond in either weeks or months of gestational age. If the woman responded in weeks, IPUMS has divided the reported number of weeks by 4 and rounded down. For more detail on the difference in question wording, see the Questionnaire Text tab.
Universe
- Burkina Faso 2021 Female and Household: Women aged 15-49 who successfully ended a pregnancy.
- Cote D'Ivoire 2020 Abortion Follow-up to Round 2: Women aged 15-49 who were interviewed in the Cote d'Ivoire 2018 Round 2 household and female survey who reported ever having an abortion and consented to be contacted again.
- Ethiopia 2020 Round 6 Female Follow-up: Women aged 15-49 whose most recent pregnancy ended in miscarriage or abortion.
- India 2017 (Rajasthan) Round 2 Female and Household: Women aged 15-49 who ever had a pregnancy end in miscarriage, abortion, or stillbirth.
- Nigeria 2019 Abortion Follow-up to Round 5: Women aged 15-49 who were interviewed in the Nigeria 2018 Round 5 household and female survey who reported ever having an abortion and consented to be contacted again.
