Description

SEFEARNAUSEA reports whether the woman is concerned about nausea/vomiting as a side effect of a contraceptive method. See comparability tab for important information on differences in the universe parameters for each sample.

Users should be careful to distinguish this variable from FPSENAUSEA which indicates whether the woman has experienced nausea/vomiting as a side effect of using a contraceptive method, and FPSENOWNAUSEA which indicates whether the woman is currently experiencing nausea/vomiting as a side effect of a contraceptive method. SEHEARDNAUSEA indicates whether the woman has heard about or experienced nausea/vomiting as a side effect of a contraceptive method.

This question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.

Comparability

For the Uganda 2018 sample, this variable reports a concern held by any woman aged 15-49, provided that she had experienced or heard about any side effect related to a method of contraception. Hence, the universe for the Uganda 2018 sample is not restricted to women who have used contraception in the past. For the Ethiopia 2019 sample, this variable includes only women aged 15-49 who are currently using (or whose partner is using) a method of contraception, and who have heard about - but not experienced - side effects related to that method.
