Description

SONSAWAY _GH reports the number of sons who are living away from the respondent.
This variable is consistently codes across the IPUMS Global Health projects from the project specific variables:

IPUMS DHS: SONSAWAYHOME
IPUMS MICS: AWAYSON
IPUMS PMA: SONSAWAY

Found on the Women unit of analysis (IPUMS MICS and IPUMS DHS) and the Family Planning-Person unit of analysis (IPUMS PMA).

Comparability

To create a common universe across the three projects, additional categories were created:

90 Women who never had a birth
91 Women who do not have a child away at the time of survey
