TIMEMENSTRUATE, together with TIMEMENSTRUATEVAL, reports the time passed since the woman's last menstrual period.
Note that this variable reports only a specific unit of time i.e., days, weeks, months, or years, not the actual duration of the interval. The specific number of months or years is reported in TIMEMENSTRUATEVAL. Users must use both TIMEMENSTRUATE and TIMEMENSTRUATEVAL to determine the exact amount of time since the woman's last menstrual period.

There are no comparability issues.
Comparability with IPUMS-DHS
TIMEMENSTRUATE, together with TIMEMENSTRUATEVAL, can be used to create a variable similar to TIMEMENSTRUATE in IPUMS-DHS. There may be differences in questionnaire text or the variable's universe; see the Survey Text and Universe Tab of the IPUMS-DHS variable for more information.
