Comparability — Index

GENERAL
Congo (Democratic Republic)

Comparability

Most commonly, this question is worded as "On a typical day in the DRY season, how much time do you spend collecting water?"

There is a question wording difference in the Democratic Republic of the Congo Round 1 2013 survey that might affect comparability.

Comparability — Congo (Democratic Republic) [top]

In the Round 1 Survey, this question is worded as "How many hours a day do you spend on water during the dry season?" As a result, the woman's response to this question was coded in hours. If the time to collect water was less than an hour, TIMETOWATERDRYVAL is coded to zero.

Comparability with IPUMS-DHS

TIMETOWATERDRYVAL in IPUMS-PMA is similar to the variable TIMETOWTRIND in IPUMS-DHS. The IPUMS-DHS variable does not differentiate between dry and dry season, and in many cases, it asks how long it takes any household member to get to the water source. There are universe differences between the two variables that may also limit comparability. See the Survey Text and Universe Tab of the IPUMS-DHS variable for more information.
