Eligibility for female-child nutrition sample subgroups

Description

ELIGTYPE reports the person's eligibility for membership in subgroups associated with different sets of questions included in the female-child nutrition questionnaire. Subgroup names correspond with a prefix used in the variable names for questions administered to members of the subgroup as follows:

10: KID - Children under age 5 who were selected for the nutrition questionnaire. These children are assigned to one of the following subgroups based on their age and distinctions made separately in each round of sampling as follows:

11: INF - Infants under age 2 (see comparability tab)
12: YK - Youngest living biological child aged 2-5 of a woman aged 10-49, both of whom live in a household with another child under age 2 that is not the woman's biological offspring (round 1 samples only)
13: OTK - Any living biological child aged 2-5 of a woman aged 10-49 who is also the biological mother or primary caretaker for a younger child (round 1 samples only)
14: K - Any living child aged 2-5 (round 2 samples only)

20: WN - Women aged 10-49 who completed the nutrition questionnaire. Users should note that the women in this subgroup received additional questions associated with variables sharing the prefix CP if they were currently pregnant, or RP if they were recently pregnant (within 2 years).

30 - Additional household members who were not, themselves, selected for the nutrition questionnaire. Only responses to questions from the household questionnaire are available for members of this subgroup. These non-selected household members are assigned to one of two subgroups as follows:

31: Members of households where at least one household member was included in the female-child nutrition sample.
32: Members of households where no household members were included in the female-child nutrition sample.

Comparability

In round 1 samples, infants included in the subgroup INF include the youngest child under age 2 whose primary caretaker is a woman aged 10-49. (These infants may be the biological child of the woman, or a non-biological child in her care. Infants under 2 whose primary caretaker is not a woman aged 10-49 were not included in the round 1 nutrition sample; if the woman was primary caretaker for multiple children under 2, only the youngest was included in the round 1 nutrition sample). In round 2 samples, infants included in the subgroup INF include any child under age 2 identified by the household screening questionnaire.

In round 1 samples, women included in the subgroup WN include women aged 10-49 who lived in a household with an infant under age 2. In round 2 samples, women in the WN subgroup include women aged 10-49 living in randomly selected households.

In round 1 samples, children aged 2-5 are subdivided by age into subgroups YK and OTK if they are biological offspring of a women aged 10-49 who lives with another child under age 2. Consequently, there are no children in subgroup K in round 1 samples. In round 2 samples, children aged 2-5 are not subdivided in this manner; instead, all children aged 2-5 are grouped together in subgroup K.

For round 1 samples, users should note that all children in subgroup YK are the youngest biological child of their mother, who also lives with a non-biological child under age 2 for whom she is not the primary caretaker. If a woman has a biological child under age 2 in subgroup INF, or if she is the primary caretaker for a non-biological child in that subgroup, any of her other biological children aged 2-5 are included in subgroup OTK.
