This variable represents a 4-digit year, except for the following codes:
9998 = No response or missing
9999 = NIU (not in universe)
Description
ABORYR_FRND1 indicates the year when the woman's closest friend last aborted a pregnancy.
Enumerators were instructed to enter either 2020 or 2030 (in later surveys) if the respondent did not give a response to the associated survey question. IPUMS has recoded these cases to "No response or missing."
The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.

- Women aged 15-49 whose closest female friend either likely or certainly ever had an abortion.
