AGE
Age in female respondent questionnaire

This is a 2-digit variable that represents an age in years, except for the following codes:

95 = Not interviewed (female questionnaire)
96 = Not interviewed (household questionnaire)
97 = Don't know
98 = No response or missing
99 = NIU (not in universe)

Description

AGE reports the woman's age at her last birthday as reported by the woman herself. AGE may differ from the woman's age as reported by the respondent of the household questionnaire (AGEHQ). When AGE and AGEHQ differ, AGE is usually the more accurate measure since people are more likely to know their own exact age than the ages of other people.

The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire and the client exit interview female questionnaire. For maternal and newborn health samples, this question was included in the female baseline survey and refers to the age of the mother.

Comparability

In Uganda 2019, the majority of the respondents were women who had been interviewed in the Uganda 2018 Round 6 survey round, so there are women who are now older than age 49 in this sample.

Comparability with IPUMS-DHS

AGE in IPUMS-PMA is similar to the variable AGE in IPUMS-DHS. There may be differences in questionnaire text or the variable's universe; please see the Survey Text and Universe Tab of the IPUMS-DHS variable for more information.
