This is a 3-digit variable that represents an age in years, except for the following codes:
996 = Not interviewed (household questionnaire)
997 = Don't know
998 = No response
999 = NIU (not in universe)
Description
AGEHQ reports the household member's age in years as reported by the respondent to the household questionnaire, not necessarily the person him/herself. Individuals less than one year old are coded as '0'.
Note that for some cases, AGEHQ might differ from the age reported by women in the household who were eligible for the female questionnaire (AGE). Because AGE is reported directly by the individual, it is likely to be more accurate in cases of conflict between AGEHQ and AGE.
The question associated with this variable was included in the household questionnaire. For maternal and newborn health samples, the question was included in the household screening questionnaire and reflects only responses for the infant's mother.
