Description
CTRL2YR reports the number of health experiences a woman has had in the previous year, up to a maximum of 4 experiences, as selected from the following list:
Used a female condom
Visited by an anganwadi worker, ASHA or other community health worker
Took an ambulance to a hospital
CTRL2YR duplicates the list of experiences provided in ABOR2YR, but with the notable omission of "had an induced abortion". The data collectors randomly assigned surveyed women aged 15 to 49 into two subgroups. The universe for ABOR2YR is subgroup 2. Subgroup 1 gave responses to CTRL2YR. Hence, a proportion of women who have had an induced abortion in the past year may be inferred through a comparison of ABOR2YR and CTRL2YR, thereby mitigating some degree of social desirability bias that normally impacts self-reported measures of abortion service utilization.
Further, this proportion may be compared to a proportion similarly derived from ABOR1YR and CTRL1YR, which measure abortion service utilization against a listing of 4 different health experiences.
