Description

FP1STMETHSP indicates whether the woman used the rhythm method (see FPNOWUSRHY) or the Standard Days Method/cycle beads (see FPNOWUSCYCB) to delay or avoid pregnancy when she first started using a method of family planning. The Standard Days Method which is reported to be more effective, but has additional conditions that must be met to be effectively used. After reporting that either of these methods was the first family planning method she ever used (see FP1STMETHOD), respondents were asked to explain how they used the method to determine if they met the criteria for the Standard Days Method or rhythm method.

The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.
