FPPLANVAL
When will start using FP method in the future- value

This is a 4-digit variable that represents when the woman thinks she will start using a family planning method in the future, except for the following codes.

9990 = Logical edit
9995 = Not interviewed (female questionnaire)
9996 = Not interviewed (household questionnaire)
9999 = NIU (not in universe)

Description

For women who are not currently using a family planning method but think they will use a method in the future, FPPLANVAL reports when the woman thinks she will begin using the method.

Note that the codes in this variable are not reported in a specific unit of time i.e., months, or years. Rather, the unit of time in which the woman responded is reported in FPPLANWHEN. For women who reported they would wait months or years, users must use both FPPLANVAL and FPPLANWHEN to determine the exact amount of time that the woman thinks she will wait before beginning to use a family planning method.

Note that some respondents reported a year, such as 2025 or 2030, instead of the number of years or months.

Women who reported that they would begin using a method "soon / now" or "after the birth of this child" were not asked to report a value, and so are excluded from this universe.

The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire and the client exit interview questionnaire.

Comparability

Aside from universe differences between samples from client exit interview and those from the household and female survey, there are no comparability issues.
