Description

For women who are not currently using a family planning method but think they will use a method in the future, FPPLANWHEN reports when the woman thinks she will begin using the method.

Note that this variable reports only a specific unit of time, i.e. months or years, not the actual duration of the interval. The specific number of months or years is reported in FPPLANVAL. For women who reported they would wait months or years, users must use both FPPLANWHEN and FPPLANVAL to determine the exact amount of time that the woman thinks she will wait before beginning to use a family planning method.

Women who reported that they would begin using a method "soon / now" or "after the birth of this child" were not asked to report a value, and so are excluded from the universe of FPPLANVAL.

The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire and the client exit interview questionnaire.

Comparability

Aside from universe differences between samples from client exit interview and those from the household and female survey, there are no comparability issues.
