Values represent a year, except for the following codes:
9995 = Not interviewed (female questionnaire)
9996 = Not interviewed (household questionnaire)
9997 = Don't know
9998 = No response or missing
9999 = NIU (not in universe)
Description
FPSTOPYR reports the calendar year when the respondent stopped using her most recent family planning method. The instructions in the female questionnaire specify that the date given must be after the date given in FPBEGINUSEMO and FPBEGINUSEYR.
Enumerators were instructed to enter the date as January 1st, 2020 (January 1st, 2030 for samples in 2019 or after) if the respondent did not give a response to the associated survey question. IPUMS has recoded these cases to "No response".
The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.
Comparability
The Democratic Republic of the Congo 2013 sample has a different universe than other samples. See the Universe tab for more detail.
Beginning with longitudinal family planning samples in 2019, this variable was calculated using the contraceptive calendar rather than collected through a survey question.
