Comparability with IPUMS-DHS
FPUSPLAN_PREG in IPUMS-PMA is similar to the variable FPUSPLAN in IPUMS-DHS. The IPUMS-PMA variable is based on the single, direct question "Do you think you will use a contraceptive method to delay or avoid getting pregnant at any time in the future?" The IPUMS-DHS variable is constructed from a series of questions and reports if the woman intends to use, does not intend to use, or is unsure about whether she will use a method of family planning in the future. Additionally, the IPUMS-DHS variable does not exclude women based on their pregnancy status. See the Survey Text and Universe Tab of the IPUMS-DHS variable for more information.
