Description

For women who are primary caregivers for at least six children in the household under age 5, KID6FECDISP reports what was done to dispose of their sixth-youngest child's fecal waste the last time the child passed stools.

The questionnaire instructs the enumerator to begin with the youngest child, so KID1FECDISP refers to the woman's youngest child in the household, and KID2FECDISP refers to the second youngest child, and so forth.

The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.

In some earlier rounds, there is a similar question in the household questionnaire that asks the open-ended question "For all children under age five: what methods, if any, does your household use to dispose of children's fecal waste?" and all of the respondent's answers are recoded. These responses were then recoded into a series of non-mutually exclusive dichotomous yes-no variables. For example, KIDFECDISPBURN indicates whether the household burns children's fecal waste to dispose of it.

Additionally, for the Ghana Round 3 survey, all methods of fecal waste disposal for each child under age 5 are recorded separately in a series of dichotomous yes-no variables. For example, KID6FECDISPINLAT indicates whether the household disposed of the sixth-youngest child's fecal waste in a latrine the last time the child passed stools.
