Description

For India samples only, MARSTATHQIN reports the marital status of individuals in the household, as stated by the household respondent. Users may note that for some cases, MARSTATHQIN might differ from the marital status reported by women in the household who were eligible for the female questionnaire (MARSTATIN).

MARSTATHQIN differs from the variable MARSTATHQ in that some women are identified as being married, but the gauna ritual (indicating the start of cohabitation) in India has not been performed. For the purposes of understanding need for family planning, this status is more similar to not being married.
