Description

CP indicates whether or not the woman is currently using any family planning method to delay or avoid becoming pregnant.

The values in CP are constructed from the variable FPCURREFFMETH, which reports the most effective family planning method the woman is currently using. It is important to note that there may be instances in which women who did not report current use of a contraceptive method (and are thus coded as "NIU (not in universe)" in FPCURREFFMETH) are coded as "Yes" in CP. Specifically, women who do not report current use of a contraceptive method are coded as "Yes" in CP if:

a. they reported using emergency contraception in the last 12 months (FPEFFECTIVEYR)
b. they reported female sterilization as their first contraceptive method (FP1STMETHOD)

Users may also be interested in TCP and MCP, which indicate whether or not the woman is currently using a traditional contraceptive method and a modern contraceptive method, respectively.

The question associated with this variable was included in the female questionnaire.
